The firm’s roots date to the mid-1960s, when Elliott Lichtman and Michael Trister, young Harvard and Yale law graduates, respectively, joined the civil rights movement in Mississippi. They forged a friendship while providing legal services to poor rural residents. Two decades later, as experts in their respective fields of immigration and nonprofit law, they became law partners in Washington, DC.
