Karen Post specializes in all aspects of trademark and copyright law, as well as Internet and media law, providing intellectual property counsel to clients both of the firm’s media practice and of its nonprofit practice.
Trademarks: Ms. Post regularly advises clients regarding the availability, protection and registrability of trademarks and service marks. She prosecutes trademark applications and prepares and files the necessary documents to maintain trademark registrations for the firm’s clients. She prepares and responds to cease and desist letters regarding trademarks, and represents clients in domain name disputes. Ms. Post negotiates and drafts trademark license agreements, as well as collaborative agreements that include trademark licensing provisions.
Copyrights: Ms. Post counsels the firm’s clients regarding a wide range of copyright issues, including analyzing whether the use of a third party’s materials may be considered “fair use” under copyright law or whether a license would be required. Ms. Post assists clients with all kinds of license agreements, as well as copyright registrations. Ms. Post regularly represents clients who believe that their works have been infringed by others, as well as clients who have been accused of infringing someone else’s rights.
Internet law: Ms. Post frequently prepares and negotiates all sorts of contracts relating to the Internet, including website development agreements, software license agreements and marketing agreements. She also assists clients with domain name issues.
Media law: Ms. Post represents the firm’s media clients with respect all kinds of agreements, including production and distribution agreements, author agreements and publishing agreements. She counsels clients regarding potential libel claims and works with the firm’s clients regarding how best to protect their works from unauthorized uses.
